Jana Nayagan, the final film of Chandrasekaran Joseph Vijay before his full transition to politics, opened to a worldwide gross of 782.7 million rupees (approximately $8.1 million USD) on its release day Thursday, July 23, according to Indian entertainment data company Sacnilk.

Vijay, now serving as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu following his swearing-in in May, announced earlier that the film would mark his exit from acting. The movie's release triggered significant foot traffic across Indian theatres, with celebrations extending beyond standard cinema-going experiences.

A theatre in Karnataka state reported 2,000 fans attending the first screening, with the opening weekend marked by fireworks, cake-cutting ceremonies, and DJ parties across multiple venues. Aruna Theatre, one of many cinemas screening the film, documented confetti celebrations during showings as audiences responded to the milestone release.

The film's narrative follows a former police officer who raises his deceased friend's daughter and must later protect her after she becomes entangled in a criminal conspiracy.
