Founders Fund names former OpenAI exec Ryan Beiermeister as partner
Founders Fund has named Ryan Beiermeister, the former OpenAI VP of Product Policy, as a new partner. She joins the firm after her 2026 departure from OpenAI, where she clashed with leadership over a planned adult-focused chatbot feature.
Ryan Beiermeister has joined Founders Fund as a partner, marking a significant hire for the Silicon Valley venture capital firm. The move comes roughly 18 months after Beiermeister's departure from OpenAI, where she spent approximately two years as VP of Product Policy during the company's rapid ascent following ChatGPT's launch.
Beiermeister's exit from OpenAI in February 2026 was contentious. According to The Wall Street Journal, she was fired after objecting to a planned feature called "adult mode" that would have allowed users to employ the chatbot for erotic content generation. The firing also involved an accusation from a male colleague of sexual discrimination, a claim Beiermeister has disputed as "absolutely false." OpenAI subsequently scrapped the adult mode plans in March.
Before OpenAI, Beiermeister held roles at Meta and spent formative years at Palantir, the data analytics firm founded by Founders Fund co-founder Peter Thiel. That Palantir connection provides direct overlap with her new employer: Trae Stephens, another Founders Fund partner, also worked at Palantir during its early stages and has known Beiermeister for at least a decade.
Some Silicon Valley observers speculated that Beiermeister's skillful play in a Founders Fund YouTube show called "Mafia" — a deduction game the firm uses at retreats — might have doubled as an audition. However, a Founders Fund spokesperson clarified to TechCrunch that the Mafia game was not part of her interview process. "Though she is an excellent Mafia player, that wasn't part of her interview process. She has been close with Trae Stephens since they worked together at Palantir and has been friendly with our team for years," the spokesperson said.
Beiermeister has indicated her investment focus will align with Founders Fund's historical interests. In a LinkedIn post, she wrote that she is targeting "companies where product engineering is hardest and the stakes are highest — AI infrastructure and agentic systems, defense, energy, climate, biotech, the regulated frontier."
